Mr & Mrs Jenkins
We were appointed by the Jenkins family to look after their new kitchen design & installation. Being new to the area, without friends and family local to them to get recommendations from - a quick search online lead them to us.
An end to end service with everything taken care of, with peace of mind everything would run smoothly – was an absolute must when they selected their installer.
We came to do our assessment and produced an initial design that worked for them, Mrs Jenkins needed plenty of worktop space for her cake baking – with an extra large corner larder with LED lighting to store all of her baking bits, was essential.
The addition of a range cooker was required to ensure she could perform all the required tasks simultaneously to get that perfect cake, yum yum…
After a few tweaks from the Original design, we finalised the 3D design and everybody was really happy, it was starting to look great! See the 3D plans below.
Once the 3D plan were approved, we moved to test-driving the installation. We use Virtual Reality for this.
Mr & Mrs Jenkins used our VR headsets to see their new kitchen in a virtual world. Walking around the room, opening the doors to check spaces, experimenting with different colours and products, getting a good the look and feel of their new kitchen, before any work has even started!
It is fair to say, that nobody goes through this virtual experience and does not come out of it completely amazed & excited to get their new kitchen started! The Jenkins were no different, but all in good time, there is still some more work to do...
After the virtual reality experience has been done, we returned once more to do our final measure and advise the Jenkins family how to prepare for the installation & book a date when this was likely to begin, we were looking at a 6-8 week lead in time.
The final specification:
• White gloss door & draw fronts
• Bespoke walk in style corner larder with auto on/off LED lights
• D-shape handles
• Quartz grey sparkle worktops with 150mm up-stands and
• Black 1.5 bowl resin Sink
• Chrome spray tap
• Belling 90cm Range cooker with hood – Matt Black
• Aubergine glass splashback
• Belling Dishwasher
• Luxury vinyl flooring to kitchen & dining area
Projects of this size tend to fall between £18,000 - £30,000. With so many variables and choices, just a few tweaks in a kitchen can change the price significantly. A kitchen is more of an investment these days, people do not want this on the “to do” list when the move into a new house, however, when compromises are made it can show and the wow factor isn’t quite always there, always wait longer if you have to and spend what you need to, to get the result you really want.
Timescales are usually between 2-3 weeks for full refurbishments, this is only a guide, your project could differ.
This project consisted of removing a kitchen that had been in since the 60s, it was a shame to take it out, but it had to go. A structural wall was also in the way of our design, so this had to be removed first.
We dealt with the planning permission and building control signing off and certification. Once the building work was out of the way and inspections were done we could get on with prepping the room.
All of the kitchen area needed plastering and the floor was to be prepared for luxury vinyl flooring, we used a latex screed for this, it is so much better than the cement based products.
Once the shell was there we could get a start on the furniture.
Once the base units are in, we can get the template done for the worktops. Its not ideal but there is a gap between the template being done and worktop installation, usually 3-5 days. We try to fill this time with other tasks but its not always possible. We just need to wait.
Once the worktops arrive they are usually done within the day, the guys leave behind all the info needed to look after the worktops.
At this stage it is nearly over and the kitchen looks great, after a clean up and clear everything out of the house it starts to look as it did in the virtual world and on the 3D plans, very satisfying.
Now we are complete. The installation is now covered in our 3 Year fully comprehensive warranty. We are only a phone call away if any issues arise.
We asked Mrs Jenkins for her feedback once she had signed the job off as complete. This is what she had to say:
“Customer service was very good, Aaron and Gary were very professional and nothing was too much trouble during a couple of re-designs. Mike and Chris who did the building work and kitchen fitting were friendly and hard working and always tidied up after themselves. We love our new kitchen, the quality is fantastic. Kitchen installation services did a wonderful job and we would use them again”
